Addressing Hong Kong's need for cost-effective public rental housing involves social, economic, political, and architectural interests. By conserving land, utilizing existing estates, and catering to young families and singletons, there's an opportunity to extend urban living support systems in a limited, affordable, and desirable manner.
香港对具有成本效益的公共租赁房屋的需求是一个涉及社会、经济、政治和建筑利益的问题。保护土地和栖息地的期望、利用现有住宅区和场地的需求,以及对于年轻家庭、单身人士负担程度的限制,为本次扩展支持城市生活的系统研究提供了机会。
Altered estates | Common grounds showcases four research-based speculative projects examining public housing alteration strategies at block, estate, site, and territory levels. Each model is displayed in a dynamic perspectival-diorama within a quadrant of the 2.7m x 1.7m window.

Our models, with increasing scale and urban scope, outline nested architectural and landscape strategies for expanding public space, water economy, ground ecology, and infrastructural networks.

Collaborating with students and researchers from two universities, this project speculates how higher density and environmental standards can catalyze novel architectures, landscapes, and productive "living together" modes in Hong Kong.
