Wuhan's many lakes are often edged by degraded agricultural landscapes. This project aims to restore the ecological function of a string of abandoned fishponds and orchards in Houguan Lake. The design preserves healthy fragments and restores water quality by breaking down and reconnecting the isolated pond edges to create new wetlands to filter runoff from nearby developments.
武汉许多湖泊的边缘常常是退化的农业景观。该项目旨在恢复后官湖一系列废弃鱼塘和果园的生态功能。该设计通过分解和重新连接孤立的池塘边缘来创建新的湿地,从而过滤附近开发项目的径流,最终保育了场地健康的部分并恢复了水质。
In collaboration with the Wuhan Ecological Environment Design and Research Institute, we devised a strategy of reshaping the narrow pond boundaries to create a new landform or 'ecological engine'. Soil taken from planned excavation works create these green fingers to enhance habitat depth, variety, transition, and connectivity.
