Our project celebrates Hong Kong's fishponds' cultural heritage and ecological significance by proposing interventions that revive traditional practices and engage locals, operators, and the public. This fosters a shared working and ecological landscape in north-eastern Hong Kong.
The project's three-phase approach aims to foster engagement, investment, knowledge, and capacity by focusing on seeding, studying, and prototyping as its primary objectives.
Though many fishponds are active, elderly operators are less active, allowing for cultural and ecological activation, such as eco-construction, with local consent.
Scheduled for late 2023, stage 1 "Seeding Futures" comprises events and community engagements like villager talks, children's activities, and 3D model exhibits, raising awareness of Hong Kong's fishpond potential.
In early 2024, stage 2 "feasibility study" aims to offer expert landscape architecture advice regarding local land use regulations and enhance ecological biodiversity in the areas.
Starting from the third quarter of 2024, stage 3 "prototype intervention" aims to collaborate with fishpond operators interested in converting semi-abandoned ponds for enhanced ecological functions.
